Ponderosa Community Stabilization Project
About The Project
Located at 4475 Broadway in North Boulder, the Ponderosa Mobile Home Park is a diverse, tight-knit community of approximately 70 families. To help prevent the displacement of these long-time residents, the City of Boulder and Flatirons Habitat for Humanity have partnered on the Ponderosa Community Stabilization Project.
This innovative effort will introduce a mix of two- and three-bedroom duplex-style homes, as well as carriage-style homes situated above garages, to provide residents with more housing options. Current residents will have the opportunity to purchase new, permanently affordable, energy-efficient homes—or choose to remain in their existing homes if they prefer.
To date, three families have already moved into their new homes, and construction is underway on six additional homes. In summer 2025, we will place the first homes built in our new Boulder MOD factory at the Ponderosa site—marking an exciting milestone in our efforts to expand modular, climate-resilient construction.
The project also includes a unique collaboration with students from the University of Colorado Boulder, who participated in the U.S. Department of Energy’s Solar Decathlon. As part of this collegiate competition to design and build high-performance, low-carbon buildings, the student team designed a sustainable, carriage-style home at Ponderosa. Their goal was to create a net-zero energy home using environmentally conscious materials—supporting both climate resilience and long-term affordability.
