Position Summary:
The Director of Construction and Land Development leads all aspects of Flatirons Habitat for Humanity’s homebuilding and land development activities. This includes managing new home construction, overseeing modular production at the BoulderMOD factory, guiding land acquisition and entitlement, and supervising site and infrastructure development. The role integrates strategic planning with hands-on implementation and requires coordination across staff, contractors, homebuying families, and community volunteers to deliver quality, affordable homes that align with the organization’s mission and long-term vision for growth. The incumbent will spend time building alongside homebuyers, volunteers and construction staff.
Core Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership and Planning
Collaborate with the Executive Director and board committees to develop long-range plans for construction and land development.
Identify and evaluate potential development opportunities, including land acquisition and new construction sites.
Lead annual budgeting and forecasting for construction, infrastructure, and land development initiatives.
Ensure alignment between project execution and organizational goals, timelines, and funding streams.
Land Development and Site Planning
Manage site selection, due diligence, and acquisition in coordination with staff and board.
Oversee site plans, utility coordination, and permitting processes.
Liaise with city and county agencies, civil engineers, and architects to ensure projects meet local zoning and building requirements.
Lead infrastructure development, including roads, drainage, and utility installation.
Construction Management
Direct the planning, scheduling, and execution of new home construction, both onsite and in the BoulderMOD factory.
Oversee general contractors, subcontractors, and site supervisors to ensure work is completed on time, within budget, and to quality standards.
Supervise all warranty work, inspections, and homeowner walk-throughs.
Ensure all construction meets or exceeds applicable codes, safety standards, and HFHI guidelines.
Volunteer Engagement and Team Leadership
Recruit, train, and supervise construction staff and volunteer crew leaders, with support from other staff including volunteer coordinator and COO.
Provide leadership development and mentorship to construction team members.
Ensure a positive and inclusive work environment for volunteers, staff, and homebuying families.
Coordinate with the Volunteer Manager to align skilled volunteer labor with project needs.
Factory Production Oversight (BoulderMOD)
Lead and collaborate with factory leadership to integrate modular home construction into the broader homebuilding pipeline.
Ensure scheduling, material procurement, and staffing support factory production timelines and quality standards.
Support student engagement and workforce development efforts in partnership with the Boulder Valley School District.
Maintain a safe, inclusive, and well-coordinated work environment within the factory.
Ensure that volunteer groups and Habitat homebuyers have meaningful and appropriate opportunities to contribute to the modular homebuilding process within the factory setting.
Uphold construction quality, safety, and Habitat standards in all aspects of factory operations.
Procurement and Vendor Management
Oversee procurement of materials, tools, and equipment.
Maintain vendor relationships and negotiate pricing and contracts.
Leverage in-kind donations and pro bono labor whenever possible.
Project Administration and Financial Oversight
Track and report on project progress, schedules, and budgets.
Approve all construction-related invoices.
Monitor in-kind contributions and maintain accurate valuation records.
Ensure compliance with all grant and contract requirements related to construction activities.
Additional Responsibilities:
Serve as staff liaison to the construction and land development committees.
Represent Flatirons Habitat in meetings with municipal partners, neighborhood associations, and other stakeholders.
Attend industry conferences and training to stay current with best practices and innovations in affordable housing and modular construction.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director to support the mission and strategic priorities of the organization.
Qualifications:
Valid General Contractor Certification, class C or higher. Able to be licensed in Boulder, Colorado
Minimum high school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, planning, or a related field preferred.
Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible experience in residential construction, land development, or project management.
Proven leadership and team management skills, including experience supervising staff, contractors, and volunteers.
Strong working knowledge of building codes, permitting processes, site planning, and construction safety standards; Experience building in Boulder, Colorado.
Familiarity with affordable housing development, zoning, entitlements, and energy-efficient building practices is a plus.
Experience with modular construction and factory-built housing preferred.

Compensation:
Salary $100,000 - $120,000, commensurate with experience
