BoulderMOD: Building Futures, One Home at a Time

About The Project

BoulderMOD is a first-of-its-kind modular housing factory in Boulder, Colorado, created through an innovative partnership between Flatirons Habitat for Humanity, the City of Boulder, and Boulder Valley School District. Our mission is simple but bold: build high-quality affordable homes—while building the next generation of skilled tradespeople.

At BoulderMOD, we’re not just constructing walls and roofs—we’re constructing opportunity. Every home that comes off our line is permanently affordable, energy-efficient, and built with care. And every student who walks through our doors gains hands-on experience in modern construction methods, laying the foundation for a career in the skilled trades.

Most importantly, we remain true to the core of the Habitat model: every home is built with the community. Habitat volunteers and future homeowners roll up their sleeves and work side by side with students and construction staff to bring each home to life. At BoulderMOD, the Habitat values of partnership, sweat equity, and mutual respect are as strong as ever.

The lot by the greenhouse offers the most convenient parking options.

PLEASE check-in at the main entrance of the school. When entering the school grounds from the light on Arapahoe, the main entrance is located near the first parking lot you pass on the right-hand side. Speak with the front desk attendant about checking in to BoulderMOD. They will ask for your ID and print a badge for you to wear while on school grounds. Once you have the badge, please report to the BoulderMOD Factory.

How It Works

Modular Construction

Homes are built at our climate-controlled factory, ensuring higher quality, faster timelines, and less waste. Once complete, they’re transported to their permanent site and, with the help of some pretty cool cranes, set on their foundations.

Student Workforce

Boulder Valley high school students work alongside Habitat’s construction professionals, volunteers, and homebuyers, learning essential skills in carpentry, framing, electrical, and more—all while earning credit toward graduation and industry-recognized credentials.

Community Impact

BoulderMOD homes are placed in Habitat developments across Boulder and Broomfield counties, offering homeownership opportunities to families who have been priced out of the local market. This factory allows us to build faster, reduce costs, and serve more families each year.

A Model for Equity and Innovation

BoulderMOD is about more than housing—it’s about systems change. In a region where housing costs are among the highest in the country, we’re tackling affordability with innovation. By combining workforce development, sustainable building practices, and nonprofit housing, BoulderMOD is redefining what’s possible for communities like ours—while staying grounded in Habitat’s time-tested approach: people coming together to build homes, community, and hope.
