Welcome to our new AmeriCorps National member, Brandon!

We're excited to welcome our newest AmeriCorps National member, Brandon McMahon, to the Flatirons Habitat team! As our Community Development Coordinator, he will play the vital role of engaging and retaining new FHFH partners and volunteers.

Originally from St. Paul, MN, Brandon came to Colorado from Arkansas where he was a police officer and a juvenile probation officer. He also serves in the U.S. Army Reserve, which he's been a member of since 2003. His interest in community engagement was piqued in the field as a Civil Affairs Team Leader, where he deployed to Djibouti and Burundi to teach civil military coordination. While deployed, he implemented a women's health initiative and a teachers' first aid program that were later replicated across the region.

"It was a great experience working with different cultures and finding creative ways to help people in their communities," said Brandon.

Brandon is excited to apply those principles in his work with Flatirons Habitat, as well as learn more about community engagement from the civilian perspective. He's also finishing up his Bachelor's degree in organizational leadership with Colorado State University. After his AmeriCorps service he hopes to transition his career to continue service within the nonprofit sector.

An avid runner and rock climber, Brandon is already enjoying the perks of living in Colorado. His goal is to complete all 53 14ers in Colorado. He's finished two already - including hiking Long's Peak in August with a sprained ankle!
