HERS rating is latest good news for Wonderland Creek project
Things are continuing to move along at our Wonderland Creek project in Boulder and we’re thrilled that the first home will be complete by the end of the year.
The first house, which will be home to Ignacio, Stephanie and their three children, has received its Home Energy Rating System, or HERS, Index rating and it came in under our expectations -- and that’s a good thing. The home has a HERS rating of 9.
Decent, affordable homes are what we build, but affordable goes beyond the mortgage payment. We also provide energy efficiency, so utility bills don’t hurt. We’re happy to say that based on the HERS rating on Stephanie and Ignacio’s home performed by Sustainably Built, they should be nice and warm in the winter and cool in the summer while their utility bills stay in check.
A home energy rating is an analysis of a home’s energy efficiency. The HERS Index is the nationally recognized scoring system for measuring a home’s energy performance. Based on the results, an energy-rated home will receive a HERS Index Score. The HERS Index Score can be described as a sort of miles-per-gallon sticker for houses, giving prospective buyers and homeowners an insight as to how the home ranks in terms of energy efficiency. The lower the number, the more energy efficient the home.
To put the 9 rating on Ignacio and Stephanie’s home in perspective, the average HERS Index Score of the homes rated in 2014 was 63, according to the Residential Services Energy Network, or RESNET.
And the HERS rating isn’t the only great news to report on the home. We’re also thrilled to report we’re getting in to the interior work and are on track to have the home completed by year’s end. We anticipate February completion on the remaining four homes at Wonderland Creek, which will be home to Leo and Juana and their four children, Kadir and Laxmi and their two kids, and Ralph and Jennifer and their teenage son.
