Our Homes

Building quality, green homes for our families for 25 years

Decent & Affordable

We typically build three-bedroom, 1,100-square-foot homes. We use quality carpeting, Hunter Douglas window treatments and Whirlpool energy-efficient appliances. Flatirons Habitat homes are designated permanently affordable by covenant.

High Construction Standards

Over the years, Flatirons Habitat has partnered with professional architects to make sure the overall design of our homes coincides with the overall look of neighborhoods. Our homes have met or exceeded all building standards. We outsource services for our foundations and excavations, electrical, plumbing and HVAC. We use high quality materials, such as DOW Chemical materials for our blue board and insulation. All other labor is donated by our community of volunteers. On average it takes about nine months to complete a home.

Energy-Efficient

We are committed to being a leader in building sustainable and energy-efficient affordable homes for hard-working families. For example, many of our homes are built and designed with the ability to use solar panels. When solar panels are made available by grants and/or partner organizations, they are installed during construction. We are interested in programs that recognize our commitment to quality construction and design and seek ongoing partnerships with programs and certifications, such as LEED for Homes, ENERGYSTAR and Indoor airPLUS.

Investing in the long-term

Our program is a hand up - not a hand out. Families, at the time of closing on their home, commit to paying a monthly low-interest mortgage payment, property taxes, home insurance and homeowners association fees. HOAs maintain the standard for the outside appearance of homes. We provide general education to our homeowners about all aspects of home ownership, including maintaining a home.
