Building a Brighter Future Breakfast Overview

On May 3, 2012 Flatirons Habitat for Humanity held its biennial Building a Brighter Future Breakfast. This inspirational and informative fundraising event let Flatirons Habitat's past sucesses "speak for themselves!" Two partner families told their personal stories of challenge, transition, and the true differences that Flatirons Habitat made in their lives. We also heard from staff and community partners about far-reaching plans for the Flatirons Habitat affiliate and our families in Boulder and Broomfield Counties. Guests also enjoyed an introduction to Flatirons Habitat's work building homes, hope and community, via the video below:

Bowl-n-Build Overview

On January 16, 2011, Flatirons Habitat for Humanity held its first annual Bowl-n-Build fundraising event at Chipper's Lanes in Broomfield. This event was sponsored by Carrabba's Italian Grill and the Millstone Evans Group of Raymond James and Associates, Inc.

More than 145 people attended and all 24 lanes were pre-reserved with designated teams. Teams also had the opportunity to purchase entertaining "mulligan style" challenges with fun options like the "backward granny roll", and the "construction gear" challenge in which players had to dress in construction gear, including blacked out construction glasses and workers gloves and attempt to bowl.

There were many prizes given to teams and individuals during the event. The Millstone Evans Group of Raymond James and Associates took home a prize for the most creative team name "I Can't Believe its Not Gutter". The winner of the 2011 Bowl-n-Build (bowler with the highest score) was awarded to Karen White of Composite Technology Development. She is the proud owner of the 2011 GOLD Bowl-n-Build bowling pin.

The event was a great success and netted $5,450 for the affiliate. All event proceeds will support Flatirons Habitat for Humanity's work in Broomfield and Lafayette. Thank you to all of our sponsors and participants who helped to make this a fun and successful event. We're looking forward to next year's event!

SIMPLE SOLAR HELPS FLATIRONS HABITAT FOR HUMANITY HOMEOWNERS GAIN ENERGY INDEPENDENCE.

Flatirons Habitat for Humanity, in partnership with Simple Solar, announces the first project in their collaboration towards providing Habitat  homeowners the advantages of green energy through solar power.

Flatirons Habitat was recently awarded a City of Boulder ClimateSmart ™ grant which is being matched by Simple Solar.  This allows for the installation of a 6.16 kW system for future Habitat homeowners of the Northfield Village complex on the corner of Jay and 47th, in Boulder.  This matching grant is just the beginning of a partnership between Simple Solar and Flatirons Habitat for Humanity to work together on future green projects for Flatirons Habitat homes.

The first building in Northfield Village consists of four  townhomes with three bedrooms in each home.  The solar project will include four 1.54kW systems and will begin installation in January, 2010. In total, twenty-eight 220 kW Canadian Solar Panels will provide approximately 800 kilowatt hours of energy per month.  “This solar solution for Flatirons Habitat for Humanity residents will offset most of the electrical bill in the townhomes and bring these homeowners close to energy independence. Simple Solar is proud to be involved with Habitat for Humanity’s life changing work,” remarked Steve Bauhs, Sales Director of Simple Solar.

Simple Solar has recently embarked upon green job generation for at-risk individuals by employing Simple Solar installers from Workforce Boulder County and Mi Casa Resource Center.  A few of these individuals will have the opportunity to assist Habitat volunteers on the solar installation at Northfield Village. “This is a true partnership between Habitat for Humanity, Simple Solar and the City of Boulder’s ClimateSmart™ Program towards the creation of green job opportunities and stable home environments for at-risk families,” says John Lovell, Executive Director, Flatirons Habitat for Humanity. “Simple Solar and Habitat for Humanity share the same dedication to our community, supporting green initiatives and environmental stewardship.  This collaboration, as green partners, provides Habitat for Humanity homeowners the advantages of solar energy.”
