Building Green

Our affiliate has made a commitment to being a leader in building sustainable and energy efficient homes for deserving families. As an affiliate, we are interested in programs that will recognize our commitment to quality construction and design. Thus, we are partnered with programs and certifications, such as LEED for Homes, ENERGY STAR, and Indoor airPLUS.

Please view the video created by CU student Lauren Seaber with News Team Boulder!

We we completed our first LEED home in late May 2010 at Northfield Village in Boulder. Not only are we the first LEED affordable housing units in Boulder but we achieved LEED Platinum, the highest ranking for LEED certification!

LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is an internationally recognized green building certification system,  providing third-party verification that a building was designed and built using strategies aimed at improving performance across all the metrics that matter most: energy savings, water efficiency, CO2 emissions reduction, improved indoor environmental quality, and stewardship of resources and sensitivity to their impacts.

We are an ENERGY STAR Partner and build 100% of our homes following – and usually surpassing – federally-set standards for energy efficiency from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s program for ENERGY STAR-Qualified Homes. Green construction practices and ENERGY STAR® certification produce a better built, better performing, more comfortable home, with several benefits for our homeowners:

  • Greater energy efficiency and less pollution
  • Healthier indoor air
  • Reduced water usage
  • Lower ownership costs
  • Improved durability and reduced maintenance
  • Greater resale value
  • Natural resource preservation
  • Environmental protection

The Indoor airPLUS partnership works in conjunction with the EPA's ENERY STAR program. The measures introduced by Indoor airPLUS go above and beyond standard code requirements to deliver a healthier and safer home environment for our families. This program focuses on:

  • Improved Indoor Air Quality
  • Minimize Pollutants
  • Improve Comfort
  • Protection Against Combustion Pollutants
  • Home Maintenance
